Casting choice
Pricilla
We decided to go with Pricilla as she fit the description we were looking to go with. We wanted a black girl from a lower/middle class background to play the Upper Class boy's lover. Pricilla looks very good on camera also considering she's an actress. Upon looking at our other casting options we felt that Pricilla was easy going, and had flawless chemistry with Michael.
Michael
We decided to go with Michael, mainly because he worked well with Pricilla, however we decided to change our main upper class boy, who was supposed to be white, however due to the lack of time we would have had with the other cast member, we choice michael, who looks excellent on camera, and is very natural with Pricilla.
We really liked the pair of them, due to them not having to come out of character, they both naturally, dress in the way that envisioned. Michael, smartly dressed, very high fashion, whereas although Pricilla does dress high fashion, she does have clothes that connote this lower class background, which meant that it was easier as we didn't have to purchase any extra items.
Michael, in action, wearing a grey, smart overcoat promoting his upper class side, with a black shirt inside, which is contrasted well with Pricilla's clothes.
Pricilla is wearing "Mom Jeans" something outside of her normal clothing, this suggests she is becoming more like him, trying to look more smart, as if they've almost traded wardrobes. Once again, this is to suggest that she is trying to impress him, by dressing the way he'd normally dress.
Here,Michael is wearing adidas tracksuit bottoms, and here we wanted to connote how he is warming up to Pricilla's culture, and he's trying to impress her by wearing what she thinks she would like, however we still get the hint of his upper class showing, through the cream knitted sweater and the white shirt inside. In this case Mise En Scene, costume to be specific, was very important to show how they both wanted to impress each other, and are slowly imitating each others dress sense.
Pricllia wearing a black oversized bomber jacket, although quite high fashion, looks very different in comparison to Michael's Clothes. It doesn't look as smart, which is what we were going for,, we wanted to show the clear contrast between them, especially through the costume, and due to both of them already owning these clothes, made it easier to work with them, another reason why we believed they were the perfect cast choice!
