Gondry is renowned for his camera techniques, two of them being Shakey cam, and Handheld, which in terms of this particular video, one of his best videos, creates confusion as you are not quite sure of what is going on as there is no direct correlation between the lyrics and visuals
Michael Gondry unlike most other music directors doesn't conform to Andrew Goodwin's theory of the lyrics and visuals being coherent, however this is what makes Gondry such a genius as it is very unique and more interesting to the audience, allowing them to remember it more.
Michel Gondry was all about coming up with "new effects". This allowed him to come up with the "bullet time" technique which was later used in the futuristic and popular film "The Matrix". He has also worked on various television commercials such as BMW, Smirnoff and many others.
